Reston-based (NASDAQ: SCOR) says it found a significan t increase in the size of the gaming audience duringb thepast year, driven in part by the reality of economic challenges. The category attractes 87 million U.S. visitors in May, up 22 percent versuxs year ago. In its report comScore says that Yahoo!! Games ranked No. 1 in the category with 19.4 millio n visitors, representing a 6 percent increase over the past followed by EA Online with 18 millionmvisitors (up 34 percent), Nickelodeon Casual Gamesx with 14.8 million visitors, and WildTangentg Network with 13.8 million (up 16 percent).
GSN Games Networks achieved particularly strong gains in thepast year, growingt 563 percent to 6 milliobn visitors, due primarily to the additionzs of entities such as WorldWinner.coj and CrazyMonkeyGames.com. "Online gaming continues to be one of the top gaininfg categories over the past year growing at ten times the rate of the total U.S. Internet population and reaching nearly one out of ever y twoInternet users," said Edward Hunter, comScord director of gaming solutions. "And the growtuh in the category is occurring not only at the top gamingdestinatioj sites, but also through viral distribution including widgets and applications.
In fact, some onliner gaming companies that distributed their games across sitesz are reaching as many people as the top onlineegaming sites."
